Branch line with freight sidings and a private siding to works.
Ballan Road is set in a fictitious village on the Cumbrian coast line during the mid 1950s – mid 1970s, allowing for stock from the steam era through to blue diesels, at differing times. The nearby station has remained open mainly to allow workers to reach the local chemical works, which also provides some freight traffic. The engine shed is still operational to provide shunters for the works.
The original centre section of the layout was built by member Barry Allen as a diorama but has been extended and made fully operational by members Ian Coules and Dave Forshaw, featuring a mixture of kit-built and scratch-built structures.
Rolling stock is an eclectic mix of scratch-built, kit-built and ready-to-run items from vintage steam power to newer diesel traction. Operation is a mixture of DC analogue and DCC.
