A Bunch of Bananas!

An interesting comparison was enabled on the test track at Lawlogg recently when it became possible to bring together three different examples of the famous GWR ‘Flying Banana’ railcars, first introduced in 1933.

In classic GWR ‘chocolate & cream’ livery is a tinplate model by ETS of Prague. Alongside it is a brass kit in the early British Railways livery of ‘blood & custard’. At the rear is a Heljan version in later BR green, with speed whiskers.

Within a few years of their introduction, the second World War was under way, meaning that, for many, these were the only type of bananas they would see for several years.  (Altogether now – “Yes! We have no bananas!”)

Visitors with O-gauge stock are always welcome to come along and run it on any of our layouts, which can accommodate both DC and DCC.  See the ‘visit’ page at https://lawlogg.uk/visit/
