That’s a Wrap!

Owners of sleek and expensive supercars (and some full-sized buses & trains) these days eschew the cost of a re-spray, instead choosing to have their pride & joy wrapped in vinyl. Why shouldn’t we try that when upgrading and modernising ‘O’ gauge rolling stock, ready for our next layout project?

Our treasurer asked this question when he embarked on an experiment to enable conversion of some of Lawlogg’s old maroon Lima coaches to ‘modern image’ – well, BR blue-grey, anyway, if not exactly ‘modern’! 😉

(Members will be able to read a lot more about the process and details involved in the next edition of the group’s quarterly magazine, Call Attention.)

To be fair, there was a bit of re-spraying involved (ends, roof and underframe) but the tricky sides responded well to a wrap, supplied by Aquitrain, with transfers for the coach numbers from HMRS. Bogies were also replaced using parts from Easy Build coach kits.

Yet to be fitted are the correct oval buffers from Invertrain and some magnetic couplings from MagClics.

Although current models from several manufacturers are available and undoubtedly better quality than the old Lima units, the price is about three times what has been spent on these upgrades.

Along with these updated coaches by our treasurer, our secretary has been growing his loco stock and was recently able to take a picture showing a fine line-up of BR-era diesels in a variety of liveries.

We are already looking forward to taking layouts and displays to several shows during 2024, so wish you a Happy New Year and hope you will come along and meet us soon. (Find out how to visit us, here.)

Stay tuned for more details, which will be posted up on this site when appropriate. (Facebook users can follow us here.)
